After leaving school, Kerr O’Connell King initially set out on a career as a barber. Having enjoyed working in several different barber shops, Kerr eventually came to realise that this wasn’t the right long-term career choice.
Kerr had always had a passion for cars and quite by chance, came across an article in a trade publication about a Pre-Apprenticeship course in Motor Vehicle Maintenance at the City of Dublin FET College Plunket in Whitehall, Dublin.
For Kerr, it was a real lightbulb moment and he immediately contacted the college and enrolled online for the next semester which started the following September.
After successfully completing and graduating the Pre-Apprenticeship course which included valuable work experience in Besançon, France, Kerr began applying for apprenticeship positions advertised.
Following the very first interview with Bright Citroen Dealership, Airside, Dublin Kerr was offered an apprenticeship position and is now preparing to attend the Phase Two college placement.
Reflecting on the journey, Kerr says “In my opinion, none of this would have been possible without completing the Pre-Apprenticeship course at Plunket. The course gave me the skills, confidence, and knowledge to build my new career in the motor industry.”
Hannah McKane
Hannah McKane started her career in retail, working across a variety of retail stores in Dublin. While Hannah enjoyed the experience, it wasn’t the job she wanted long term.
However, it was her brother who pointed her toward a Pre-Apprenticeship course in Motor Vehicle Maintenance at the City of Dublin FET College Plunket in Whitehall, Dublin.
Excited by this opportunity to return to education, Hannah wasted no time and enrolled for the Pre Apprenticeship Motor Vehicle Maintenance Course starting the following September.
Having successfully completed and graduated from the course, Hannah says that the Pre-Apprenticeship course not only gave her hands on skills but also gave her the opportunity to complete her work experience placement abroad in a Peugeot garage in Besançon, France.
Incredibly, after her very first interview with Bright Ford Airside, Hannah was offered an apprenticeship position.
Hannah is now working with Bright Ford and waiting to attend Phase Two of her apprenticeship journey.
Reflecting, Hannah said, “For me, without completing the Pre-Apprenticeship course at Plunket, none of this would have been possible. Today, I have a new career in the motor industry.”
